Elli
Elli
Born: January 2005
Diagnosed: July 2008
Utah, U.S.A.
Elli seemed to have a normal infancy and achieved her early milestones on time.
When she was 14 months old we started noticing unusual head and eye movements.
When she was 2 years old she was diagnosed with Epilepsy and doctors suggested medication.
We felt guided to not begin medication and soon moved from the United States to Germany for work.
Soon after our move to Germany Elli’s seizures worsened. Visits to doctors there led us to the amazing Kinderklinik in Tuebingen, Germany. There our doctors had heard about Glut-1 and suggested testing for this ”unlikely disorder”. As soon as we learned about Glut-1 we knew this was the answer! Elli’s first day on the diet was also the last day she had a seizure.
After starting the diet we watched with amazement as her speech dramatically improved and other learning challenges gradually disappeared. Elli has no significant developmental delays. We are so grateful for an early diagnosis and for the amazing doctors who have treated us.
Elli has been on increasingly liberal versions on the diet and is now enjoying the Low Glycemic Index Treatment. The last few years Elli has had a harder time complying with the diets, especially at school. We are so proud of how she faces the challenges that her treatment brings. She is an amazing, artistic, kind and courageous example to all of us!!!
